If you're thinking about getting new windows for your home, it's important to keep a few things in mind. If your current windows are more than 20 years old, they might not be doing a great job at keeping heat in during the winter and out during the summer. Nowadays, windows are made much better and can help you save money on your heating and cooling bills. This is because they're made with newer materials, better building methods, and a special kind of glass that helps control temperature.
Windows with more than one pane are packed with special gases like argon or krypton, which move slowly and are thicker than air. This helps keep heat from moving around too much, which is great for keeping your house warm or cool. These gases make your windows better at stopping heat from passing through, by improving their insulation and efficiency ratings. Windows that have two or three panes are called IGUs, short for Insulated Glass Units. They work by keeping the air (or gas) between the panes still, which means less heat gets through. Generally, windows with three panes are even better at this than windows with two panes.
